One of the things you quickly realise when you become a parent is how ridiculously expensive things for babies are. Seriously, some of my children’s clothing has cost the same amount as an adult size, which is drastically unfair considering, a) how quickly they grow out of them and; b) it’s the tiniest amount of fabric ever and, did I mention how quickly they grow out of them? The last clothing shop we did was painfully expendy and then three weeks later the piglets were straining at the seams in their onesies.
So, for a long time I didn’t even bother with baby shoes, because like baby button up shirts, they look cute but are annoying to take on and off for every nappy change and kids grow out of them so fast. But it was their perfectionist dad who started grumbling that they need shoes. Enter Baby Shoe Co., started up by a young mum in Cambridge, New Zealand who was also fed up with the frightening cost of babywear, Baby Shoe Co. offers a super cute range of baby shoes at much-better-then-the-stores prices.
I went a little nuts and ordered a few pairs of adorable things – white sneakers, faux suede moccasins and some little converse style sneakers (but without the laces so they are quick to get on and off).
Now, a word of warning. Measure your babes feet and then consider going up a size as by the time I got my boys’ shoes it was a tight squeeze getting them on, which was such a shame. I did opt for a size up in a few pairs and that was the right thing to do.
