If there’s one thing skin product I need in my beauty arsenal it’s a jolly good eye cream. Granted, an eye cream won’t give me eight hours’ sleep a night, but the powers that be at Dermalogica have designed Age Reversal Eye Complex to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, puffiness and dark under eye circles. You had me at hello.
Why you need an eye cream…
Caroline Parker, Head of Education, Dermalogica New Zealand says the eyes are particularly susceptible to damage. “The skin around the eye orbit is the thinnest on the human body and has fewer oil glands than the rest of the face, making it more susceptible to environmental factors such as UV exposure. And that, combined with frequent movements like smiling or squinting, leads to fine lines and wrinkles.”
What’s good about Age Reversal Eye Complex?
In a nutshell, Age Reversal Eye Complex tackles a myriad of skin issues. It helps speed up the cell turnover process, stimulates collagen production and thickens the cell layers around the eye. This makes the skin appear plumper, fuller and smoother, with fewer wrinkles and consistent pigmentation distribution. Yes, please. The reason Age Reversal Eye Complex is pretty darn impressive is because it contains microencapsulated retinol 0.1%, which significantly restores the structural integrity of the skin, accelerates cell turnover and renewal, stimulates collagen production, improves epidermal thickness, and increases elastin biosynthesis. It also contains microencapsulated niacinamide (Antioxidant Vitamin B3) which is one of my favourite skin care wonders as it controls inflammation, reduces the appearance of dark under-eye circles due to hyperpigmentation, inhibits glycation (the process in which sugar molecules react with proteins such as collagen and produce harmful molecules that weaken skin, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles), and reduces trans-epidermal water loss. Microencapsulation ensures optimal potency and penetration. And it also boasts Dermalogica’s AGE Reversal Firming Complex with palmitoyl tripeptide-5 to strengthen collagen and firm tissue, hyaluronic acid hydrates tissues and softens appearance of wrinkles.
Retinol is no joke, so you need to go easy when you begin with a retinol product. This one is applied on alternate nights for the first two weeks as skin to allow skin to build up a tolerance to the retinol. As the skin tolerates the product you can then shift to applying nightly. I followed these instructions and experienced no adverse reactions and after two weeks I was able to apply the cream each night before bed. Interestingly, for such a strong product I found it very light and soothing, which is certainly appealing now that I’m a tired mama. And anything that can help with dark circles is a win in my books. I don’t look 5 years younger yet, but I definitely think my eyes feel firmer and fresher and I’ll drink to that!
Age Reversal Eye Complex costs $115 from authorised Dermalogica® skin centers nationwide and dermalogica.co.nz.
