I have a confession to make. I totally cheated on winter. And I’ve been doing it for weeks. I can’t blame myself entirely. It was the irresistible allure of Clarins Opalescence Spring 2014 collection that caught my eye, stole my heart and made me turn my back on smokey eyes and dramatic dark lips in favour of pink flushed cheeks and the prettiest pastel pout I ever did see. Oh and bare luminous skin. Yep. I didn’t even care if it was inappropriate for the cold, wintry days, my face said ‘spring is here’.
Clarins Multi-Blush Cream Blush is a smooth cream to powder blush that delivers a flush of natural looking colour to the cheeks. These are seriously pretty and I struggle to choose a favourite from the four shades (Peach, Candy, Rosewood and Grenadine) although I always come back to a pink over a peach on my pale skin tone. It can also be used on lips which is handy although of course it doesn’t last so long and can highlight any dryness so it is best on the cheeks.
Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base is a moisturising base that adds radiance and illuminates the skin while helping to blur any flaws you may have. It doesn’t add coverage, so it is best used with concealer if you desire that really sheer ‘I have amazing skin naturally’ glow. I am not such a huge fan of the peachy shade on me, but the palest shade delivers that subtle luminosity which I favour.
Perhaps my favourite products from the collection, Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant Lipstick is available in Tropical Pink, Coral Tulip and Pink Orchid. The colours are PURE PERFECTION – like your natural lip, but better. They are lightweight, smoothing and glossy and ultra nourishing. I also use them as a blusher as they give a gorgeous sheer flush to the cheeks too. I love that these don’t have childish glittery nonsense in them as – sad but true – I’m getting a little too old for that sort of fun stuff these days.
Clarins Ombre Minerale Mono Eyeshadow in Smoky Plum is a winner. I thought it would be too grey on my eyes and I was also concerned it would be too shimmery. But it is actually beautiful. It has a subtle shimmer and can be used lightly by day or vamped up by evening. What is lovely is that though it looks quite grey it is actually a little plum in certain lights. And it’s more wearable (I think!) than a straight-up plum shade which can look a little tacky unless perfectly applied.
FULL rave from me. Check it out at Clarins stockists while you can.
